This training will cover how to represent a public housing tenant in a Boston Housing Authority (BHA) emergency transfer request or appeal.
VLP takes BHA emergency transfer cases in which a disabled public housing tenant needs to be transferred to a different BHA unit for medical reasons as a reasonable accommodation, and cases in which a household member is being threatened or has a safety concern, and a transfer would allow the tenant to move to a safer environment.
VLP also takes emergency transfer cases where the conditions in the unit are at such a substandard level that they are either a health hazard, or can not be remedied without relocating the family. (lead paint or severe mold would be two examples.)
We will cover topics including the different types of BHA transfers, the BHA transfer application and appeal process, transfer eligibility, how to make a transfer and Reasonable Accommodation request, and how to obtain medical documentation that best supports emergency transfer requests and appeals.
Lunch will be provided.
