This training will give lawyers with limited or no bankruptcy experience the tools they need to file a petition and represent a debtor in a Chapter 7 bankruptcy.
Discussion topics will include:
• Pre-filing considerations
• How to prepare and file a case
• Debtor obligations
• Maximizing Exemptions
• The role of the Chapter 7 Trustee
• Issues that can hold up the administration of a Chapter 7 case
There is no fee for this program, however attendees are required to put their new skills to work by accepting a pro bono case for a low-income debtor who would otherwise be unable to access and negotiate the Bankruptcy Court system pro se and receive relief from crushing debt.
Sponsored by the BBA Bankruptcy Law Section Pro Bono Committee and the Volunteer Lawyers Project of the Boston Bar Association.
