1. How do I schedule the VLP conference room?

You must notify VLP at least a day ahead to schedule one of VLP's rooms. We have two conference rooms and three computer rooms. Please call the front desk at 617 423 0648 x 120. You can also email the front desk at vbaldasaro@vlpnet.org. Specify if you need to use the computer.

2. How do I sign up for VLP trainings?

You can sign up online at http://vlp.volunteerhub.com. If you are not a member of Volunteer Hub, you need to register as a new member in order to sign up. The membership is free and all VLP trainings are for free.

Trainings are also available at MCLE. MCLE courses have fees. If you have taken at least one case from us, you may be eligible for a training voucher which offers a heavy discount.

3. What do I need before I file a bankruptcy?

Panel attorneys must be admitted to the Federal Bar AND have an ECF username and password. Please note that ECF is different from the PACER account. You can obtain the ECF user information by taking an ECF Training.

4. How do I obtain credit reports for my client?

It is the client's responsibility to obtain his or her own credit reports. However if they need extra assistance, you can call 1 877 322 8228 on their behalf or visit the Annual Credit Report website. This website will be able to obtain credit reports for your client for free once every 12 months. Websites like freecreditreport.com are not really free and will usually require a monthly fee.

5. How do I attach the Credit Counseling course certificate on Best Case?

a. Open your email which contains the PDF and right click ont he link to the attachment. Then choose Save As in the pop-up menu that appears.

b. In the Save As window that opens, click the drop down arrow to the right of the Save IN box at the top of the screen. Select the C:drive.

c. Double click on the ECF folder in the main portion of the window and then again on the folder with your client's last name.

d. In the box labeled File Name, make sure the file is called CCC.PDF.

e. Click the Save button.

f. If there is a separate certificate for the joint debtor, label the second file CCC2.pdf.

g. Open the client's file on Best Case.

h. Click on Exhibit D once. Once Exhibit D is highlighted, click on the button below labeled Attach."

i. A new window will open. Click on insert and click on Existing PDF File.

j. You will be asked to locate the CCC.PDF file. Click on the C Drive, then the ECF Folder then your client's folder. Double click on the CCC file.

k. Make sure the option chosen is "After Form" before you save the file.

l. Click OK.

6. How do I attach the Declaration form to Best Case?

a. Once you and your client manually sign the Declaration form, obtain a copy of the declaration form in PDF.

b. In the Save As window that opens, click the drop down arrow to the right of the Save IN box at the top of the screen. Select the C:drive.

c. Double click on the ECF folder in the main portion of the window and then again on the folder with your client's last name.

d. In the box labeled File Name, label the file Declaration.PDF.

e. Click the Save Button.

f. Open the client's file on Best Case

g. Double click on Local Forms.

h. Click on the Declaration for Electronic Filing once. Once Declaration is highlighted, click on the button below labeled Attach.

i. A new window will open. Click on insert and click on Existing PDF File.

j. You will be asked to locate the Declaration.PDF file. Click on the C Drive, then the ECF Folder then your client's folder. Double click on the Declaration.PDF file.

k. Make sure the option chosen is "Replaces Form" before saving.

l. Click OK.

7. How do I save my client's Best Case File into my own USB drive?

To protect your client's confidentiality, you can save your client's file on your USB drive or portable hard drive and delete the client's case in our semi-public computer.

a. From the client's list window, highlight the desired client.

b. In the menu bar, select File then select Send Client to Disk from the File sub-menu.

c. A dialog box will appear with the name of the client at the top. Click the Copy to Other Location button and navigate to the appropriate drive and folder and click OK.
