Temporary Administrative Assistant
The Volunteer Lawyers Project of the Boston Bar Association (VLP) seeks an organized, flexible person to manage projects and provide administrative support.  This is a 1 year grant funded full-time position.   VLP represents low-income people in the Greater Boston area on a variety of civil legal problems, including housing, consumer issues, and family law matters.  Many cases are referred to volunteer private attorneys who handle the cases with VLP providing training and ongoing support.

Responsibilities:

 

  • Conduct intakes of new clients at the small claims clinics.
  • Open new cases in database and maintain office databases; perform regular reports and data reviews.
  • Follow up with clients on cases after clinic that need further assistance or representation.
  • Maintain a calendar for supervising attorney for small claims court schedule.
  •  Facilitate communications between attorney and clients.
  • Attend trainings as needed for professional development.
  • Organize and schedule trainings for volunteer attorneys.
  • Participate in other projects as needed to continue the VLP mission.

Requirements for the Position:

  • Bachelor’s Degree Preferred
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Excellent administrative and organizational skills.  Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Facility with technology including Microsoft Office programs, database and web content management systems, and collaborative project tools.
  • Ability to work independently and to coordinate efforts with colleagues.
  • Reliability, good judgment, and flexibility.
  • Ability to travel to Greater Boston District Court locations on public transportation or by car.
  • Fluency in Spanish preferred.
